Pure Cult The Singles 1984-1995

You can't go wrong with 19 tracks from every Cult era to date. It makes for a somewhat schizophrenic experience to play it straight through because of the varying styles from album to album, but it listens better than it reads.
This collection would be a great intro to the band for anyone just discovering them, but it has appeal for fans who own every album, too... if you prefer the hits over the rest, it's always handy to have them all on one disc.
But more than that, fans will find quite a few alternate edits and mixes here, plus two promotional singles that didn't appear on any of their previous six albums: The Witch from 1992 and In the Clouds from 1996.
A remastered reissue of sorts of the 1993 import of the same name, this "greatest hits" collection has a nearly-identical track list as the 1996 High Octane Cult on Reprise. The sound quality on this one is better and there's one more track, but High Octane had an additional bonus track (Beauty's on the Street) missing from this lineup. And both are slightly different yet again from the 1993 and/or 1996 original Pure Cult compilation(s). Welcome to the complex world of Cult rarities and collectibles.
All tracks are album versions where not indicated otherwise.

"There was no doubt that... the Cult would return, stronger than ever... The reformed, re-energised band hit the road for a USA tour in late 1999 and, with plans for a new album, the insurrection continues. These days it just takes longer for the fiery feuds between Duffy and Astbury to cool. That's love power, baby."
-- Dominic Wills, from the Pure Cult liner notes
